Day 01 12/09/2011 – Honeymoon WoO HoO

After a successful wedding day on Saturday 27/08/2011 back we go to the airport for our HoneyMoOon !

Here’s to two weeks full of shopping, good food & junk.

Through customs screening we went  with a bout of Cat rage to ensue.

She was forced to leave her 150ml bottle of Redken hair treatment behind as it was over the 100ml travelling allowance.

Her rage wasn’t so much about having to leave the bottle behind but rather that she was being bossed around by the Punjab customs officers.

I bursted out laughing as I observed a true blue Aussie being subjected to a spot search by a bearded MooSie customs officer… how ironic LOL.

(After this my camera battery died… oops ! Not so nice to have a angry wife so early into the trip)

Needless to say both Cat and I didn’t enjoy the 15 hour flight.

We didn’t sleep very much at all.

I was sitting behind an old granny who thought it was appropriate to have her seat fully reclined for the full 15 hours.

By the 5th hour a seafood stench tickled our noses…. wait a minute, there’s no seafood on the menu !?!?!?!?

We discovered this smell was coming from the girl sitting in the seat beside us . I dry wretched.

Overall, we weren’t impressed by our first A380 experience, not much improvement over a 747.

Welcome to the United States of America !~!^~&&*#@!!@~

Dazed by the flight, my brain didn’t comprehend where we were.

I looked out the window and said to Cat “F*ck that guy on the tarmac is bl*ck as”.

Through a slow and painful customs process we go , after a finger print scan and facial photo we are allowed entry.

First impressions of LA were pretty ordinary – It felt like we caught a 15 hour flight to the Gold coast.

Old and tacky.

As multicultural as it is back home, I still had to adjust the notion of seeing so many African Americans and Latinos.

Where are all the white people at ???

We arrived to check in at our Art Deco hotel …. :S Ramada Hotel West Hollywood.

We were upgraded to a Loft suite since the room we had booked was not was available.

A very tacky hotel, much like the rest of LA, but within our loft suite we made ourselves at home.

In order not to succumb to jetlag, we quickly showered and power napped for 20 minutes then headed out for some shopping.

We headed over to the Beverly Center, straight to the food court.

Starved from lack of food on the plane, we decide to enter the culinary epicentre of American culture otherwise known as the mall food court,.

What a letdown… welcome to 1992.

We chose KFC Express, only to discover they don’t sell fried chicken but only wings and stuff like that ? WTF ?

From here we caught a Taxi to Westfield Century City – an open air mall.

After a stroll getting acquainted to the American stores and not finding anything to buy we ventured downstairs to Gelson’s gourmet supermarket.

Cat has deemed it her idea of an American supermarket heaven and was increasingly  fascinated by the range of snack foods.

No wonder there is an obesity epidemic. Fresh food is expensive compared to the readily available fast food.

Tv commercials here preview the array of delicious, cheap fast food.

We returned back to room 306 and soon after at about 6:30pm  fall asleep until 11pm missing out on dinner :S

Now to more of that brown bag Cat was carrying earlier….
